Mathcore masters, Car Bomb, are officially heading down under for the first time, joining Karnivool and TesseracT on the highly anticipated ‘In Verses’ Australian tour.

In a brand new interview for Metal on Tap, guitarist Greg Kubacki sat down to discuss the sheer scale of the upcoming shows, noting that seeing the massive venue capacities was the biggest surprise for the band. “We looked at the caps, we’re like, ‘Oh my god, this is crazy.’ So we could not say no,” Greg shared.

While Karnivool and TesseracT bring their own flavors of progressive metal, Car Bomb serves as the heaviest act on the bill, injecting a volatile dose of death metal and Meshuggah-inspired intensity into the lineup. Greg teased that while they will be bringing maximum heaviness, the band plans to showcase their full sonic palette, including tracks from their recent independent EP, Tiles Whisper Dreams.

During our chat, Greg also opened up about the painstaking process behind their music. The band famously took a six-year gap between their acclaimed 2019 full-length Mordial and their newest EP. According to Greg, the delay comes down to a strict quality control process and a refusal to rush art just to feed the modern streaming algorithm.

Watch the full interview below to hear Greg discuss the band’s rehearsal process, his musical influences ranging from Metallica to Helmet, and the surprisingly mundane origin story behind the name “Car Bomb.”
