Marvel Vs Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Review

After over 10 years of fan campaigns and demand the long awaited re releases are here, spanning from X-Men Children Of The Atom all the way to what people are really buying this collection for Marvel Vs Capcom 2. As well as Arcade Beat Em Up The Punisher. But after all this demand and waiting does it hold up to what we were expecting.

Right from the startup the presentation and options are what we would expect from a collection like this, each game allowing changes in difficulty settings and even changes between the English and Japanese versions of the games which can matter a lot in old releases like this before patch culture in gaming. Each game gives us the option to play its arcade mode, training mode, local multiplayer and the real seller online modes.

Of course most are here for Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, you’ll be hard pressed to find games in many of the other games whether it be a ranked match or not. But that’s not exactly much of an issue, the matchmaking isn’t perfect as it can really take some time to find games even during times when many others are playing. Once the match actually gets rolling its fantastic rollback netcode, As long as you are fine with fighting Magneto, Storm, Sentinel and Psylocke that is. But the matchmaking is most certainly in needing of some fine tuning.

There’s also the museum mode, giving us a look at the old artwork and key art that went into these games. Much of this art has been considered very timeless and iconic so a great addition to really give it a proper look over, a music mode is featured as well if you want to rock out to the jazzy soundtrack of Marvel Vs Capcom 2.

If you aren’t looking to grind out the online and just want to relive the glory days of the arcades of the 90s and early 00s this collection has everything that you are looking for. The ports are pretty much arcade perfect and give us plenty of options, at its current price point being nearly that of a current AAA game it can seem a bit expensive. But for one wanting to go on a nostalgia trip or show your skills online, this collection really is the collection for you.

Here’s hoping that this collection shows interest in the franchise and we can get some new entries sometime in the future. I have of course had to dock some points from it due to some issues with the matchmaking but I feel my final score is fair.

8/10 Great!

This game is a great nostalgia trip down to the Arcades of the 90s and early 00s, the games themselves still play great to this day albeit not the most balanced games out there. The game’s main issue is its matchmaking, hopefully something that gets fixed in later patches.

Available on: Steam, Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4
