BABYMETAL Review/Photos By Marc K’Nell

The night kicked off with Melbourne’s Future Static, who wasted no time firing up the crowd. Lead singer Amariah Cook showcased her incredible range, effortlessly switching between growls and clean vocals throughout the set. She and bassist/vocalist Kira’s vocal interplay was spot on, adding depth to every song.
Opening with Waves, they eased the crowd in before hitting hard with tracks like Chemical Lobotomy, …And the Walls That Were Built, Icarus, and The Hourglass. They slowed things down with Will I, highlighting Amariah’s range before the band joined in.

They closed with a killer cover of Gasolina and the banger Roach Queen, where guitarists Jack Smith and Ryan Qualizza shredded the stage while Cook commanded the crowd.
Future Static is definitely a band to watch, and judging by the crowd at their merch desk after the show, they’re only going to get bigger!
As the crowd cheered themselves on for absolutely nailing their singalong to Chop Suey, the lights dimmed, and the KAMI band took their spots. The intro package played, and Su-metal, Moametal, and Momometal walked onto the stage, launching straight into BABYMETAL DEATH. It’s always the perfect way to kick things off, and the crowd was instantly hyped to the max for the next 75 minutes.

Distortion was up next, and the energy was off the charts. Su called for a circle pit in the middle of the song, and the Enmore Theatre crowd was more than happy to make it happen. Massive shoutout to the crowd because the energy never dipped the entire night. Next was DA DA DANCE—so much J-POP blended perfectly with metal, had me dancing for sure.
Then came what I can only describe as pure chaos. The opening notes of BxMxC dropped, and the crowd raised the roof with it! METALI followed, giving the KAMI band a moment to shine, with each member getting a solo before the song kicked off properly. Su got the crowd to throw their hands up and bounce to the beat—no hesitation, the crowd was all in, and yes, I was down with them too.

Megitsune had the place going wild again, while Monochrome turned the entire venue into a sea of phone lights—so bright it completely overpowered the venue’s lighting. Next, we were all singing RATATATA, and since I saw Electric Callboy play it at Good Things, it was awesome to experience it from BABYMETAL’s side this time. It only made me want to see both them and Electric Callboy perform it together live even more. PA PA YA!! brought another massive pop (and towels!), before Gimme Chocolate closed out the main set.

For the encore, they hit us with Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!, which had me headbanging hard, and Road of Resistance as the perfect closer—bringing the 75-minute set to an end while the crowd was still screaming for more.
BABYMETAL absolutely delivers live, and if you weren’t there or haven’t seen them before, you seriously missed out.
