Review By James Locke

If you haven’t heard of Ghostseeker yet, it’s time to get on board. This Aussie band is ready to take the heavy music world by storm with their highly anticipated debut album, Divergence. Formed by guitarist Tim Campey (ex-Letters to Amara), alongside vocalist Celeste Bojczuk and guitarist Cory Walkeden, Ghostseeker is stacked with serious talent. The guitar work is electric, delivering the headbanging riffs we all crave, while Daniel Gay (ex-Anyone Anyone) keeps everything locked tight and groovy behind the kit. If you’re after fresh, heavy sounds that hit hard, Divergence absolutely delivers.

Ghostseeker Divergence

The album kicks off with “Internment,” and right away it’s clear the band isn’t messing around. It opens with an eerie, ambient undertone before launching from 0 to 100 as the full band kicks in, Daniel Breen’s (ex-Storm the Sky) brutal vocal intro setting the tone. If you’re not headbanging yet, restart and try again—this track brings massive energy from the jump. Celeste’s soaring vocals paired with Breen’s raw intensity create a captivating contrast, and the return to ambience ahead of the breakdown adds an epic cinematic touch.

“The Looking Mirror” sees Breen bringing a different kind of energy with more bounce to his delivery. He and Celeste trade lines in the chorus with fierce chemistry. The song strips the instrumentation back for another suspenseful build-up before the final chorus lets all the emotion pour out. Then “Wake Up (Imposter)” storms in with a gnarly riff, heavy verses, and another catchy-as-hell chorus. This one’s got serious replay value!

“Metempsychoses” arguably features Celeste’s standout vocal performance on the album. She takes the lead here, while Breen’s backing screams complement her beautifully, adding depth and emotion. As the track builds to another massive breakdown, Breen comes back in full force. This one feels like being dropped straight into the pit!

The eerie piano intro in “Cursed Till the End,” layered with crushing guitar riffs, is chef’s kiss. Breen’s punchy pre-chorus and Celeste’s ethereal chorus showcase Ghostseeker’s dynamic range and ability to balance light and heavy elements effortlessly.

Ionei Heckenberg of Ocean Sleeper joins the band on “Glow in Decay,” adding another vocal layer that fits perfectly within Ghostseeker’s already versatile sound. The song delivers another well-written, catchy chorus and a solid groove throughout. “Dissension” follows with a similar blend of lighter verses and explosive choruses, keeping the momentum going strong.

“A Reverie in Atonement” switches up the pace, opening with a clean vocal from Breen (love hearing that Aussie accent shine through!). The track builds gradually, with Celeste taking over in the chorus. It’s a more grounded, thoughtful song that adds variety to the album and really highlights the band’s versatility.

Now, if you love guitar tapping as much as I do, “Beta War” is your track. With tight drumming and high energy, this one was a personal favorite and feels tailor-made for live shows. It’s bound to become a Ghostseeker fan-favorite anthem!

The album closes with “The Prototype,” bringing back the raw, heavy energy of earlier tracks. Both vocalists give it their all, and the chemistry between them is undeniable. The final moments of the track are beautifully written—Celeste’s emotional delivery makes it feel like the band is pouring out everything they have left. A perfect closer.

Overall, Divergence proves that Ghostseeker means business and is a force to be reckoned with. The talent and creativity are undeniable, and the love poured into this debut shines through in every track. Honestly, this might be one of the best debut albums metalcore has seen. The production, songwriting, and execution are all top-notch. It’s wild to think this is just their first album! From brutal breakdowns and anthemic choruses to killer riffs and groovy drums, Divergence ticks all the boxes. I can’t wait to see Ghostseeker take this beast on tour.
