Review by Marc K’Nell
Ukrainian metal powerhouse Jinjer is back with their 5th album Duél and it does not disappoint! As one of my all-time favorite bands, I was eagerly looking forward to Duél with great anticipation.
Jinjer have grown so much since I first came across them back in 2020 during the COVID lockdowns—both musically and in popularity. They keep pushing their sound, refining and expanding their take on modern metal. Fusing groove metal, metalcore, prog, hardcore, and technical metal with jazz influences and more, they create something that’s both chaotic and brutal yet also beautiful and fragile. Their songwriting keeps evolving, and honestly, it just works. Jinjer have carved out a distinct voice in today’s metal scene, and they keep proving why they belong at the top.

Right out of the gate, the opening track Tantrum smacks you in the face, with Tatiana Shmayluk delivering her brutal trademark growls while teasing us with her stunning clean vocals. On top of that, guitarist Roman Ibramkhalilov hits us with crushing riffs, while bassist Eugene Abdukhanov weaves in his signature funky undertones, adding even more depth to the mix. Meanwhile, Vlad Ulasevich, an absolute powerhouse behind the kit, keeps everything flowing seamlessly. The level of variety here is something most similar bands can’t match, making Duél a relentless display of top-tier musicianship.
Overall, Duél is absolutely worth listening to from start to finish, but the chosen singles—Green Serpent, Duél, and Kafka—really hit hard and got me fired up. The brilliant mix of styles, combined with Tatiana’s seamless blend of clean and growling vocals, makes this album truly shine. Duél will definitely be getting many more spins from me as I gear up for their upcoming Australian tour!
Final Rating 10/10
